If you are a government officer working in the city, get ready for a change of routine. The Malaysian Government has announced a temporary work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants in conjunction with the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

The policy will be in effect for six working days, from 21 to 28 October, as part of efforts to reduce congestion and ensure smooth operations during the summit.
According to a statement from the Public Service Department (JPA), this initiative supports the MADANI Government’s ongoing mission to prioritise public well-being while maintaining efficient service delivery.
Under the circular SR.4.1.2, the temporary WFH arrangement gives department heads the flexibility to approve remote work applications for officers who live within 25 kilometres of their workplace, particularly those expected to be affected by heavy traffic throughout the event period.
“The Heads of Department are encouraged to consider applications from eligible officers to work from home, especially those who might face travel difficulties due to the summit,” said JPA.
This move reflects the government’s focus on resilient, compassionate, and efficient governance, emphasising empathy and work-life balance among civil servants.

However, JPA reminded that all applications must still follow the existing WFH regulations and guidelines. Officers who qualify are advised to get in touch with their Heads of Department (HOD) for further details and approval.
