Chelsea Are Through To The Champions League Quarterfinals!

Chelsea overcame arguably their worst slump in recent years to book a place in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz gave the Blues a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their last-16 tie, to send them through 2-1 on aggregate.

The result means Chelsea boss Graham Potter can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The 47-year-old has been facing calls to be sacked, after overseeing a barren February during which his side failed to win a single game.

In fact, the UK rumour mill had earlier claimed that Potter would be on his way out if his side failed to beat Dortmund as well as Leeds in the EPL.

As it turns out, he’s somehow managed to rally the players to win both these matches. (They pulled off a narrow 1-0 win over Leeds over the weekend)

This is the first time the Blues have recorded back-to-back victories since October. The win over Dortmund is also the first time they’ve scored more than one goal in a game this calendar year.

With Chelsea already out of the domestic cup competitions and currently sitting 10th in the league standings, making the quarters of the Champions League will no doubt offer Potter a career lifeline.

It at least buys him some goodwill from owner Todd Boehly, even if some fans are not entirely convinced of Potter’s managerial credentials.

Be that as it may, it would appear – at least for now – that the good times are back at Stamford Bridge.

The team have a taste of winning again and the players are starting to show signs of playing for their manager once more.

But only time will tell if they can keep up this run of good form.
