Champions League: Man City And Inter Hold Quarterfinal Advantage

Man City have one foot in the Champions League semifinals.

Rodri, Bernado Silva and Erling Haaland were on the scoresheet at the Etihad, as the English club recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the first-leg of their quarterfinal.

It was an outstanding all-round display from Pep Guardiola’s side, as they edge closer to the one trophy that has eluded them so far.

Erling Haaland was also in the headlines once again with what was his 45th goal this season. He is now the highest-scoring Premier League player in all competitions over a single campaign.

For Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel, this was a painful return to England, where he had previously been in charge of Chelsea.

The Bundesliga club were outplayed by a much more organized and well-rounded opponent, and face an uphill battle to save the tie in next week’s return leg in Munich.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan put themselves in a strong position to advance into the last four after an equally impressive 2-0 win away to Benfica.

Nicolo Barella opened the scoring five minutes after the break, before Romelu Lukaku ensured a two-goal cushion with a late penalty.

The result will come as a huge relief for Inter boss Simone Inzaghi, whose side came into the match without a win in any of their last six games.

They are now considered favourites to finish the job at the San Siro next week.

Meanwhile, quarterfinal first leg action continues tomorrow (April 12th) with Chelsea’s trip to Real Madrid and the all-Italian clash between AC Milan and Napoli.
