Lajamanu, a town located 560 kilometers southwest of Katherine, close to the Tanami Desert, doesn’t get much rain, and whatever happened last Sunday (19 February) night has been dubbed as an “act of God.”

The rural community, which you probably had to use Google Maps to find, made international headlines after live fish “rained from the sky.”

According to News.com.au, the local and Central Desert councillor, Andrew Johnson Japanangka Lajamanu said the people were actually waiting for bad weather, however what happened was completely unexpected…

“We’ve seen a big storm coming and thought it was just rain,” he said.

“There were fishes falling when it rained. It was as big as your two fingers. The young ones are collecting them and storing them in bottles or jars.”

He added that people have found fish on their roof, on the ground, and some just swimming in puddles, “It is the most amazing thing we’ve ever seen. We believe that it is a gift from God.”
