Academy Museum to Showcase the Cinematic Legacy of Youn Yuh Jung in Special Exhibition

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is hosting a special event to honour Youn Yuh Jung, the acclaimed South Korean actress who made history by winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 'Minari' (2020). 

This unique exhibition, organised by the Korea Foundation (KF), is titled '윤여정: Youn Yuh Jung' and will run from May 17th to 25th.

The event is part of the Korean Film Screening Series, which aims to highlight Youn Yuh Jung's journey in cinema. The exhibition will feature eight films that represent the actress's illustrious career, including her debut film 'Fire Woman' (1971), 'The Housemaid' (2010), 'A Good Lawyer's Wife' (2003), 'The Bacchus Lady' (2016), 'Boomerang Family' (2013), 'Canola' (2016), and 'Lucky Chan-sil' (2019).

Youn Yuh Jung, who will be in Los Angeles for the event on May 17th and 18th, is a pioneer in the Korean film industry, known for her versatile roles and captivating performances. The Academy Museum expressed excitement about hosting this retrospective, stating, "We are delighted to celebrate the remarkable contributions of Youn Yuh Jung to cinema. Her career, spanning over five decades, has had a profound impact on storytelling in Korean cinema."

The Academy Museum, inaugurated in 2021 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the same organisation behind the Academy Awards, is the largest museum dedicated to film in the United States. It is committed to showcasing the art of filmmaking and honouring notable figures in the industry.
