They will also gather to discuss issues related to women, gender equality and social matters, says programme director Shatesh Kumar Sangar.

The delegates, aged between 15 and 30, come from a variety of backgrounds, including students, professionals, the disabled, women activists and others.

“It is time for women to speak out and stop being used to garner votes for political parties,” says Shatesh.

The delegates will also come under the wings of 12 MPs and state assemblywomen, including Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Nurul Izzah Anwar, and Yeo Bee Yin in a mentoring programme.

The event is being held in response to Malaysia being ranked 117 out of 152 countries in a report by the World Economic Forum on female participation in politics.
