Woman Jumped Off A Bridge In Penang, Saved By Authorities

A woman believed to have jumped from the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah bridge was rescued on Sunday (6 December).

The 22-year-old woman left her vehicle on the shoulder of the road before diving into the sea. 

According to a spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Penang said that the PLUS officers received an emergency call at 7:22 am and were rushed to the scene to carry out the rescue work.

In a statement, the spokesperson said: “The woman left her car at kilometer (KM) 16.5 of the bridge with her identifications.” 

"A member of the PLUS patrol made an initial rescue action by getting off the bridge using a rescue rope along with personal protective equipment (PPE) and a safety jacket to rescue the victim.”

The woman was rescued at a distance of 100 meters from where she is believed to have jumped.

She was then taken to the Batu Uban Marine Police Force and the case was handed over to the police for further action.
