In a freak accident in Penang, a 49-year-old woman was crushed to death under an overturned car which had earlier rammed into her, knocked into a concrete wall and dragged her 20ft to the ground.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 70s, survived, but she did pick up chest injuries from the incident this morning (December 3rd).
It’s important to note that this happened at a condo, located on a hill slope and is slightly elevated above the road.
“The driver was still strapped to her seat. We took her out and gave her first aid treatment. We found the deceased crushed under the front part of the car. It took us about 10 minutes to remove her,” said Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department operation officer Yusri Zakaria.
The driver is currently receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital, while the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem.
A witness told the New Straits Times he was shocked when he saw what had happened, as the whole thing happened so quickly.
“The deceased was crossing the road mid-way to get to her car after washing her legs. I shouted to alert both women but it was too late then,” he said.
It’s understood that the deceased always washed her legs at the pipe outside before driving into her parking lot.
“The next thing I know, the senior citizen rammed into the victim while making her way into the condominium parking lot before knocking into the concrete wall and falling 20ft below onto a back lane. The senior citizen was driving slowly at the time but may have stepped on the accelerator after knocking into the victim in a moment of panic,” he explained.
