What We Remembered In 2020 Besides COVID-19

We are at the end of 2020, and it felt like the longest 12 months as the COVID-19 pandemic affected the lives of many around the globe. 

The coronavirus has taken over our lives on news headlines every day, making it easy for us to forget that it wasn't the only thing that happened in 2020.  

Besides COVID-19, what else do we remember that has happened so far? 

Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s court case

It was one of the most prominent trials this year. 

The former Prime Minister was sentenced to 12-years’ jail and fined RM210 million by the KL High Court which found him guilty on seven charges of Criminal Breach of Trust (CBT), money laundering and abuse of position in relation to SRC International Sdn Bhd funds. 

Change in government

In February, the Pakatan Harapan government collapsed. High-stakes political drama played out, with a number of MPs defecting from PH to form a new governing alliance, Perikatan Nasional, with the opposition. Over a couple of days, parties and MPs switched support and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was appointed as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia. 

Dalgona Coffee trend

This trend took over the internet by storm in March after it was first popularized in South Korea and then it spread across the world while we remained indoors.  

According to Google Trends, “Dalgona coffee” has become the most searched type of coffee worldwide, overtaking previous highest peaks for all other kinds of coffee. 

Water conundrum in the Klang Valley

Millions of households were left high and (literally) dry for several days due to repeated water cuts this year.

The rise and fall of Youtuber Sugu Pavithra

This Youtube sensation shot to fame during the MCO with their humble and down-to earth demeanor as they shared cooking videos on the channel. 

However, things fell apart in July, when Sugu was remanded for attacking Pavithra. 

But, they didn’t allow that to affect them, they made a comeback with a new video.
