It’s now MANDATORY to wear a face mask in public, but some Malaysians were left confused as to how far the rule goes.
During his daily press briefing yesterday (August 3rd) Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob explained that several people were wrongly fined for not using a face mask in their own private vehicles.
Datuk Seri Ismail did not mention exactly how many people were issued fines, but he did confirm that they will be refunded.
So you don’t have to wear a face mask while you’re in your own car, or if you’re out exercising.
Here’s where you definitely NEED to wear a face mask:
- Public transport including buses, taxis, e-hailing services, light rail transport (LRT), and Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) commuters.
- Crowded public places including farmers' markets, night markets, and morning markets.
- Tourist attractions including cinemas.
