Welcome Home, Malaysians

Being in the middle of this COVID-19 outbreak is scary enough, but imagine being far away from home during this stressful time...

The government last week brought home 138 Malaysians who found themselves stranded in India.

According to the New Straits Times, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar attributed the swift repatriation process to the cooperation that has enabled a total of 138 Malaysians and 405 Indians to return home to their respective countries.

There are however, still 1,075 Malaysian citizens stranded in India.

Meanwhile, a special flight carrying 46 Malaysians and nine citizens of neighbouring countries from Tehran, Iran (one of the severely affected by the COVID-19 outbreak) arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, yesterday morning (22 March).

The flight chartered for the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief mission initiated by the government landed at 6.35 am, the National Agency (NADMA) said.

Eight of the foreign citizens are from Singapore and one from Indonesia.

All of the 55 passengers went through health screening at the Air Disaster Unit at KLIA before being transferred to the monitoring centre in Bandar Enstek, Nilai - where they will undergo a 14-day quarantine.

The Singapore government thanked Putrajaya and the Malaysian embassy in Tehran for accepting its request to help evacuate the Singaporeans.

Welcome home Malaysians, as well as our neighbours from Singapore and Indonesia. We hope that you are all well and healthy.
