National top women’s golfer, Kelly Tan put up a wonderful performance to finish strongly in joint-34th place out of a cast of 60 golfers on her last day campaign at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.

This result means Kelly managed to improve her record in her second Olympics after ending up in 51st place when making her debut in Rio 2016.

Meanwhile, at the Izu Velodrome in Shizuoka, Japan, national cyclist, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, who made his Olympic debut was involved in an accident during Heat Two of the first round of the Men’s Keirin event, when he was trying to squeeze through a gap between other cyclists.

Kazakhstan’s Sergey Ponomaryov then crashed into the fallen Malaysian.

Although, that did not stop the 25-year-old cyclist from producing a spirited and powerful performance in the first round repechage to finish second behind Kwesi Browne of Trinidad and Tobago and manage to get a place in the quarter-finals.

National keirin ace, Datuk Azizulhasni Awang also sealed his spot in the quarter finals when he won Heat Three of the first round of the Men’s Keirin event.

Shah Firdaus was then rushed to the Juntendo University Shizuoka Hospital for further treatment.

But sadly, Shah Firdaus missed out on a place in the keirin semi-finals after finishing last out of six riders in Heat Two of the quarter-finals on Sunday (August 8th).

Datuk Azizulhasni Awang who managed to make it to the finals took home a silver medal for Malaysia in the Men’s Keirin event at the Izu Velodrome in Shizuoka, Japan.

The 33-year-old former world champion finished second behind Great Britain’s Jason Kenny who took his seventh Olympic gold in this event, and ahead of Harrie-Lavreysen of the Netherlands.

This was Malaysia’s second medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, national diver Pendelela Rinong was honoured as the country’s flag bearer in the closing ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics last night at the Olympic Stadium.

...and that’s everything you missed over the weekend!

Thank you athletes for your contributions and hard work in representing Malaysia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

You are truly our heroes!
