And as we all know, Thailand is undoubtedly one of the biggest tourist attractions in Asia, and the foreign tourist entry fee will go towards recovering the pandemic-hit travel industry.
Thailand, a country which largely depends on tourism, had only 200,000 arrivals in 2021 as compared to the 40 million arrivals in 2019.
Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Yuthasak Supasorn said that part of this fee will be used to take care of tourists. He said: “We’ve encountered times when insurance didn’t have coverage for tourists, which became our burden to take care of them.”
These latest fees required to be paid by foreigners will be included in a list of COVID-19 related payments COVID tests, hotel accommodations for quarantine and also insurance for COVID treatment of at least $50,000 (RM209,200).
