In what has been termed an act of “eternal love,” a senior citizen in Thailand cremated his wife after living with her dead remains for over two decades.

72-year-old Charn Janwatchakal paid tribute to his wife on April 31st, 21 years after she died by finally cremating her with the help of the Phet Kasem Bangkok Foundation.
In a series of photos that were shared on Facebook of the funeral, the grieving husband can be seen helping the foundation staff in carrying his wife’s coffin outside his home in Bangkok’s Bang Khen neighborhood.
“You’re simply going to take care of some business and then you’ll be back home. I am sure you won’t be long,” the bereaved man can be heard saying in the video, referring to his wife.

According to The Straits Times, Janwatchakal kept his wife’s body next to him in a small room where he slept and talked to her as if she were still alive. He spent his days resting with his pet cats and dogs in a small space next to his house during the day.
Because he had registered his wife’s death with Thailand’s officials, no legal action was taken against him.
