You’ve definitely heard and seen cats and dogs being roadkill, but what about a tapir?
This happened near Kampung Serdang in Dungun, Terengganu, when a tapir suddenly scurried onto Jalan Bukit Besi and got knocked by a car.
Two vehicles were damaged in the incident, with the tapir injuring its legs and mouth.
Thankfully, the impact did not kill the animal, and it managed to limp off the road as it bled.
“Due to the impact of the collision, the car lost control and skidded into the opposite lane, hitting the other car,” said Dungun District Police Chief, Superintendent Baharudin Abdullah.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Terengganu Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), Dr. Abdul Malek Mohd. Yusof confirmed that the tapir had fled into a nearby forest.
For your information, over 2,000 animals died by roadkill between 2015 and 2019, and here’s a breakdown:
So whenever you see an animal crossing sign, make sure you slow down!
