He made the announcement after presenting his resignation letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, during an audience with the King at Istana Negara.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin stressed that he stands by his principles to refuse working with certain kleptocrats, just so he can remain in power

He apologized to all Malaysians for his shortcomings, adding that he and his Cabinet had tried their best to protect the lives and livelihoods of those who’ve been hit hard by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin hopes the new government will be formed soon, to ensure the nation's governance will go on uninterrupted, especially as the country prepares to reach herd immunity against the coronavirus.

He assured that the outgoing Perikatan Nasional government had obtained enough doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and that the vaccination program will not be disrupted.

He also urged all Malaysians to remain calm while the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decides on a new Prime Minister.

Istana Negara earlier announced that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had accepted Tan Sri Muhyiddin's resignation, along with the resignation of his Cabinet ministers.

His Majesty also gave his consent for Tan Sri Muhyiddin to serve as the caretaker Prime Minister until a new PM is appointed.

Meanwhile, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decreed that now is not the time to call for the 15th General Election, as the fight against the coronavirus has yet to end.
