Syed Saddiq’s plan to set up a youth-centric political party is officially underway.

Today (September 17th), the Muar MP went down to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to submit a formal application to register the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

Speaking to reporters, he said Muda currently has 13 sponsors and its organisational structure will be announced soon.

Strangely, despite the party’s name, the 27-year-old pointed out that Muda will not limit the age of its members.

“This party will represent all levels of society, regardless of race, religion and age. This party welcomes those who share our ideology, idealism, understanding and our struggle. Muda will be a party for all races and religions, whose leaders will be a majority of young individuals," he said.

It’s unclear when Muda will be officially announced as a new party, but Syed Saddiq has already made an official Twitter account for it.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad earlier said that this new party will not flourish, although former UMNO Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin expressed his support for a new youth-based party, to rejuvenate the country's political landscape.
