Syed Saddiq Belittled In Parliament Yet Again

Young Muar MP Syed Saddiq has had his fair share of being disrespected during Parliament sessions, and today (August 25th) was one of them.

He had merely brought up the issue of a certain minister being fined recently for breaching coronavirus SOPs asking, “Does Arau agree with parties that strongly defends the actions of the minister who went to Turkey and did not abide by quarantine rules but is seen as a saviour because he went to Turkey and brought back 82 billion?”

And instead of engaging in a civilised debate, Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim was heard calling Syed Saddiq a “budak kecik di dalam dewan”.

Abdul Azeez then proceeded to stress that the minister in question had already paid the fine, and asked what the issue was.

The conversation went on back-and-forth for a few minutes until Syed Saddiq questioned why those in power are having double-standards when enforcing the law - on one hand, a minister gets fined only RM1,000 for not abiding by quarantine rules, whereas an elderly woman gets fined RM12,000 and five months’ jail for doing the same thing.

The issue, of course, didn’t come to a close, but it did leave a young voice in Parliament once again, belittled.

It’s sad to see those sitting in the Dewan Rakyat being more concerned about not listening to someone younger, instead of rebutting arguments in a civilised manner.
