Surge In New COVID-19 Cases Is Worrying, Says Health DG

The rising number of new COVID-19 cases in the Klang Valley and Seremban is a cause for concern, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“Our concern is that in Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan, there is a surge in cases, even more so than Sabah,” he said during a press conference yesterday (12 November).

According to The Star, DG Hisham added that it is harder to monitor the movement of the people living in the Klang Valley area, which has a population of about 6 million. 

“We have to strengthen active case detection. What we are worried about is the high population density and the movement of people.”

The Health Ministry (MOH) is constantly looking for ways to improve its contact tracing method.

Citing an example, he said those returning to Kelantan from the Klang Valley with a permit are to put on wristbands for identification. 

“Wearing the wristband is compulsory. The orange band is meant for those who have to undergo 14-day home quarantine while the green band is for those who travel to attend business matters and meetings.”

As of yesterday, Sabah recorded 319 new infections, while Negeri Sembilan and the Klang Valley have a total of 464 cases combined, exceeding Sabah’s daily count.
