Several Dewan Rakyat Staff Tested Positive For COVID-19

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed on Monday (2 November) that several Dewan Rakyat staff in Parliament have tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun urged all MPs to follow strict COVID-19 SOPs to ensure everyone’s safety during the sittings. He also called on all MPs to put aside their political differences and to be united in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic

Due to that, he added that some members of the Senate may be infected with the virus as well, “This is because they are close contacts to members of the Senate and have family ties.”

“The members have got an explanation from the whip leaders of their respective parties regarding the duration of the sitting,” said the Kota Bharu Member of Parliament yesterday at the Dewan Rakyat, as reported by Astro Awani. 

The Parliament session typically ends at 5.30 pm but was cut short on Monday over COVID-19 concerns. 

On Sunday (1 November), Senator Ras Adiba Radzi's sister, Ras Afiona Radzi tested positive for COVID-19.
