A 68-year-old woman thought she had found her ideal partner only to regret that the world of social media was not entirely a bed of roses after she was scammed RM60,000.
According to the New Straits Times, Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief, Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the victim, a housewife from Kuantan, first met the suspect on August 2nd on Facebook.

“The suspect claimed he was working on an oil rig in Australia and their relationship became closer after he frequently replied to her messages via WhatsApp.
“The victim’s relationship with the suspect eventually became quite close,” he added in a statement.
On November 30th, the suspect had asked for financial help by claiming that he wanted to buy an oil rig machine and the victim was enamoured by the suspect’s loving words.
“Sympathetic to her “boyfriend’s” needs, the victim made three transactions to the bank account given by the suspect amounting to RM60,000.
“After failing to contact the suspect who had disappeared, the victim realised that she was conned. The victim came to the Kuantan District Police Headquarters (IPD) to lodge a report on the incident,” he said.
The case is now being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code cheating with the ‘love scam’ modus operandi.
