According to the New Straits Times, district police chief Superintendent Dzulbahaarin Ismail said a team of health personnel had gone to the village to take those who were infected with COVID-19 to the Sandakan Hospital for quarantine and treatment.
Health personnel saw the man packing his things when they arrived at his house and thought that he was ready to go, however, when they returned to the man’s house, it was already locked and no one was around.
Dzulbahaarin added that it is worrying that the elderly man would infect others if he is not isolated soon.
“The team went back to the clinic and waited for him, but he did not show up.
“We are investigating this case under Section 269 of the Penal Code (Act 574) and Section 22 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for refusal of an infected person to comply with evacuation instructions,” he said in a statement.
