According to The Star, the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Jafry Ariffin said as of now, his ministry is waiting for a decision from the state Cabinet while fine-tuning arrangements with stakeholders.

He also said that they are currently in discussion with Sutera Harbour Resort (SHR) and Sutera @ Mantanani to provide a separate, safe travel route from Singapore direct to Kota Kinabalu and Mantanani Island in Kota Belud.

“The ministry needs to discuss this with stakeholders like Malaysia Airports Berhad so that we can tighten the SOPs where necessary.

“Then we will discuss it with the Tourism Ministry, as well as the Singapore side… so most likely it’s going to be after the Hari Raya celebrations,” he said.

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) also advised that Sabah needs to prepare a thorough roadmap and timeline on the reopening of the borders for international travel as safety must be prioritised, and so, a travel bubble approach is preferred for now.

It looks like travel bubbles will be the way forward for the tourism sector as the world slowly recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stay safe and remember to always follow the SOPs!
