Ronaldo's Return: 5 Other Premier League Footballers Who Came Back

Cristiano Ronaldo has made a stunning return to Manchester United, around 12 years after he first left Old Trafford.

Of course, he's not the only footballer to do so. Here is a list of other returnees.

1. Paul Pogba (Manchester United)

Ronaldo's teammate Paul Pogba is himself on his second stint at United. He first left the Red Devils in 2012 and came back four years later.

And just like Ronaldo, he also returned after a spell at Juventus.

2. Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)

Lukaku first joined Chelsea in 2011 and left in 2014.

The Belgian striker had spells at Everton, Manchester United and Inter Milan before rejoining Chelsea this summer.

Matic's first spell at Stamford Bridge spanned 2009 - 2011.

He spent three years in Benfica before being signed by then-Blues boss Jose Mourinho (who himself was in his second Chelsea spell).

4. Didier Drogba (Chelsea)

Undoubtedly one of the greatest players in Chelsea's history, Drogba spent eight years there before appearing for Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray.

He made his return in 2014, for one final season.

5. Robbie Fowler (Liverpool)

The player dubbed 'God' by the Liverpool faithful; Fowler left his boyhood club in 2001 after falling out with then-manager Gerrard Houllier.

In January 2006, Fowler rejoined Liverpool from Manchester City on a free transfer before leaving for good in May 2007.

Honourable Mentions:

Footballers aren't the only ones who had more than one spell at the same club, as several managers did so as well.

As mentioned earlier, Jose Mourinho had two spells at Chelsea from 2004 - 2007 and 2013 - 2015.

Kenny Dalglish is widely hailed as one of Liverpool's greatest managers, winning three league titles and two FA Cups from 1985–1991. He won them the League Cup in his second stint, from 2011-2012.

Newcastle fans loved it when Kevin Keegan returned to manage the Magpies in 2008, after his initial spell from 1992–1997.

Tony Pulis managed Stoke twice. His first stint ended in his sacking in 2005, but came back just a year later. His second spell was way more successful, guiding the Potters to the 2011 FA Cup final.

Outside of the Premier League, Real Madrid had 12 managers coming back for a second spell, including Carlo Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane and Fabio Capello.
