Ronaldo Nazario has answered the question that has been puzzling football fans for decades: Why did Diego Maradona wear two watches?

The Brazil football icon revealed all in a recent interview, as he was sharing memories and anecdotes about Maradona following the Argentine legend’s death last week.
First, some background info.
Mid-way through his career, fans began noticing that Maradona would wear two watches – one on each wrist.
Of course, people started speculating about this – some said each watch was for a different time zone…while others claimed it was part of a product endorsement gimmick.
It turns out the reason behind how it all started is a lot more touching.

Ronaldo recounted:
"One of the first times he came to visit me in Madrid we had dinner."
"Diego brought two watches and legend has it he did not go anywhere without them both.”
"I asked him why he wore two, and he said that his daughter had given them to him as a present and since then he had never taken them off."
We’ll never know if this was the truth or just a story conjured up by Diego…but it’s not the end of Ronaldo’s tale.
"At the end of the meal he took one off and gave it to me as a gift. I didn't want to accept it, but he insisted, and I was left with no choice.”
“I will treasure it all my life as a gesture of his generosity and kindness.”
Ronaldo also opened up about the close bond he shared with Maradona, and how the Argentine’s passing affected him.
"Diego left an incredible legacy in football. His loss is very hard to take. The news caught me by surprise and left me very sad. He changed the lives of many people and I will always be eternally grateful for the inspiration he provided me."
A fitting tribute from one World Cup winner to another.
