Two major floods in one year and losses of over half a million ringgit has left a chicken breeder facing an uncertain future…
He recently lost 45,000 chicks which were barely a week old, all perished when flood waters completely submerged three poultry pens in Kampung Raja Songsang on December 19th, as reported by the New Straits Times.

42-year-old farm manager, A. Raja Rao said the floods last month caught him off guard as the water level was about 6m high until the roof of the chicken coops, compared to the floods in January which was 3m high.
“I lost about RM300,000 in January and the fowls were much bigger compared to the ones I lost last month. The chicks were only about six days old. Besides the livestock, some 200 chicken feed bags were soaked and the farm equipment was either damaged or swept away in the floods,” he said.
Raja also added that the recent flood has resulted in damages of more than RM300,000 and will increase as he has yet to completely clean the place or do any repairs.

The farmer, who started poultry farming in 2018 said despite being left heart-brken after the floods struck, he remained determined to work hard and get the business back on track.
