If you’re having Deepavali celebrations this weekend, you might want to make sure you’re following all COVID-19 SOPs that have been put in place.

This, after it was announced that police will be patrolling residential areas on Deepavali this Saturday (November 14th), to make sure celebrations are SOP-compliant.

During his daily press briefing yesterday (November 9th), Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob explained there will be no extra roadblocks mounted near residential areas, but police will make their rounds, similar to that practised during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

“We have fixed a maximum of 20 people per house and if there are more and flouting the SOP, action will be taken,” he said.

In case you missed it, here’s the full SOP for Deepavali celebrations this year.

Meanwhile, Ismail reminded the public that wedding ceremonies and other social gatherings are still prohibited at areas placed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

He added that the SOPs for Muslim solemnisation of marriage, will be revealed soon.

“Most likely only 'nikah' (solemnisation ceremony) will be allowed. But this will be only for Kuala Lumpur, while other states are welcome to adopt it after receiving the consent from their respective Rulers,” he explained.

Stay safe, guys!
