Where do you usually go to for duty-free items? Most people would say Langkawi.
Come 2020, Pangkor will be another alternative to that! According to State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing, the preparations to make Pangkor Island duty-free is almost ready - 95% done, in fact.

He added that facilities like jetties, landscapes and lighting have been upgraded by the state government.
Definitely sounds like a new and improved shopping paradise!
‘’All preparations are proceeding according to schedule and I am confident on Jan 1, 2020, visitors will be able to buy duty-free goods,’’ he said at a media conference yesterday.
There is one catch though - the state government insisted that alcohol not be on the list of tax-free items on Pangkor Island.
Tan said that the policy may be reviewed following demand and logical factors. He also said the state is expecting to see an increase of 3-5% in the number of tourists in 2020.
