Yesterday’s (February 22nd) jam on the Penang Bridge was terrible, and for good reason!

Around 4:23pm, the Penang Bridge experienced a cable fire incident at KM3.2, which caused a more than 1-hour jam from Permatang Pauh heading towards the island.

The fire was successfully extinguished at 7:30pm and no one was injured in the incident.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) confirms that the right lanes will remain closed for a few days to facilitate investigations by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the Fire & Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Police (PDRM).

However, PLUS assures drivers that the overall integrity of the bridge is intact and safe for public use.

During this period PLUS encourages all road users to use the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah bridge to reduce congestion caused by the lane closures.
