Remember the M for Malaysia film screening that happened recently?
We were oh-so-proud of it when it was first released, but here is something to be even prouder of - M for Malaysia will be on the list of candidates for the Best International Film category in the upcoming 92nd Oscars.
Directed by Ineza Rousille and Dian Lee, M for Malaysia relives the historical and heart-stopping 14th General Election.
There are entries from 93 countries under the aforementioned category this year, making this quite the record for the Academy Awards.
The full list of all films in the running for the well-renowned award was released on Monday, and there will be first-time entries from Ghana, Nigeria, and Uzbekistan to look forward to!
Other entries from Southeast Asia include "Memories of My Body" directed by Garin Nugroho of Indonesia, "A Land Imagined" directed by Yeo Siew Hua of Singapore, and "Inhuman Kiss" directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri of Thailand, among others.
The Hollywood Reporter speculates that "Parasite" directed by Bong Joon Ho of South Korea might take home the prize. Another close contender is "Pain and Glory", which stars Antonio Banderas, "Les Misérables" and "Atlantic”.
The 93 films on the list will be shortlisted into a list of 10 which will be announced on 16th December.
Winners of all the categories will be announced on 13th January 2020 before the ceremony commences on 9th February 2020 (we tak sabar too!).
