“We are told by the victim’s best friend that she had marital and family problems. She even told her best friend, if she passed away, her friend ought to manage it and to not send her body to her family,” said Hasron.

Kartiga was living with her two children, aged 12 and six after she separated from her husband six years ago.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene after a passerby noticed thick smoke from a three-storey shoplot in Jalan Kampar Barat 3 around 10 am.

Firemen had to break into the room located on the first floor which was in flames, “All three victims were found on a bed located just 1.5m from the main door. We also found a barrel containing petrol behind a cupboard,” he added.

Supt Hasron said, based on the police investigation, the case has been classified as suicide due to the fact that the victim had personal and family issues. The police also found traces of petrol on the walls.
