More Malaysians Test Positive For Wuhan Virus

Two more Malaysians have tested positive for the Wuhan Coronavirus, bringing the total Malaysians infected to 3.

The 2 newly infected Malaysians were among those who were evacuated from Wuhan yesterday, and then taken to a surveillance centre in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

The 45 year-old-man and a 9 year-old-boy are currently in an isolation ward at the Tuanku Jaafar hospital in Seremban and are in stable condition. 

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Malaysia to 12. 

Meanwhile, another 2 people who travelled with them from Wuhan and were sent to HKL for observation, have tested negative for the virus.

Police clamp down on fake news

The Deputy IGP says 13 investigation papers on the spread of misinformation on the virus outbreak have been opened, with 3 suspects to be charged.

Also, a journalist has claimed trial at the KL Magistrate's Court, on 3 charges over the matter.

What's happening around the world?

Singaporean health authorities say an Indonesian domestic worker has been quarantined after being infected by the novel coronavirus.

The Indonesian embassy in Singapore claims she has never been to China, but was instead infected by her employers.

In Japan, at least 10 passengers on board a cruise ship have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The entire ship was placed under quarantine earlier this week, after a former passenger from Hong Kong was diagnosed with the illness.

South Korea has confirmed two more novel coronavirus cases, including a man who had recently visited Singapore. 

Korean health authorities say the patient was attending a business event in Singapore, and came into contact with the first Malaysian who tested positive for the virus. 

Meanwhile, the other infection case involved a Korean woman who had recently visited Thailand.

Over in China, the death toll has risen to 490, as at 3.30pm 5th February 2020.

Good News

China's health commission says the number of new suspected coronavirus cases in the mainland, has dropped for a second consecutive day. 

It recently received some 3,900 reports, compared to over 5000 cases the previous day.

Beijing also says over 890 coronavirus patients have been discharged from hospital, after making full recoveries.

Wuhan plans to convert another eight existing venues into hospitals to treat patients with mild coronavirus sypmtoms.

This is on top of the three temporary hospitals that the city had already converted.
