Heavy rain has devastated several states in Malaysia, including the Klang Valley for the past few days. The rain was said to have been caused by strong winds that encouraged the formation of intensive thunderstorm clouds.

According to NST, Director-General of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Muhammd Helmi Abdullah stated it also contributed to the occurrence of heavy rain surpassing 20 millimeters per hour between 4 and 6pm.
“A regular meteorological event in our nation is the strong wind factor, which contributes to the formation of active clouds.
“Flash floods can be caused by high-intensity thunderstorms that occur in a short period of time,” he added, referring to the recent severe rains that resulted in flash floods in a number of states across Peninsula Malaysia.
Flash floods have devastated eight states causing residents to be evacuated from their homes to relief centers due to the continuous heavy rain.

Muhammad Helmi also said that MetMalaysia’s weather warning are cintunaually updated and broadcasted on their website as well as social media pages like Facebook and Twitter. They also give warnings via SMS.
Met Malaysia will continue to issue rain and thunderstorm warnings for all states in the Peninsula, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
