Man Leaves Car And Belongings Before Jumping Off Second Penang Bridge

A man was feared to have drowned after jumping from the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, at kilometer 8.5 towards Batu Kawan, heading to Batu Maung, Penang on Monday (November 22nd).

The victim, a 39-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur had left his car with personal belongings on the bridge at around 4:40am before jumping into the ocean below.

Penang Maritime Director, Maritime Captain Abd. Razak Mohamed told Astro AWANI that the search for the victim started as soon as his team received a report regarding the incident. 

The Carilamat Forward Base (PHC) has been set up near the second Pulau Pinang bridge and search operations are still ongoing.

The search and rescue operation also involves teams from the Fire and Rescue Department, the Batu Uban Marine Police Force and the Civil Defence Force, with a search area of 22.42 nautical miles. 

Abd Razak said that the Maritime Malaysia Enforcement Agency takes such cases very seriously and hopes that the community does not take the easy way out in solving a problem.
