For the third time in four seasons Manchester City are champions of England, and they did it without even kicking a ball.

Their title was confirmed after nearest challengers Man United lost 2-1 to Leicester, leaving the Red Devils 10 points adrift of their neighbours with only 3 matches to play.

The trophy presentation will take place after City’s final game of the season against Everton at the Etihad, where an estimated 10,000 supporters are expected to be in attendance.

Well done, Pep…

City’s season had gotten off to a poor start… and by November they were sitting in 11th place, eight points off the pace.

As expected, questions were asked about whether Pep Guardiola was the right man to lead the club.

But unperturbed by the criticism, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss rallied his troops…and City went on a remarkable run of 22 wins in 27 matches, including a 15-game winning streak.

Under Guardiola, City have now won eight domestic trophies since 2016 – three Premiership titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups.

It was also a team effort

Man City’s squad for the 2020/2021 campaign is living proof that success is down to a team effort.

They played almost the entire season without a recognized striker due to Sergio Aguero’s illness and injuries.

In his absence, others like Ilkay Gundogan stepped up. The midfielder was City’s top scorer this season with 16 goals in all competitions.

Others also contributed…with the likes of Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling all hitting double-figures in the league and cups.

The addition of no-nonsense defender Ruben Dias has also added plenty of stability at the back – coupled with the resurgence of John Stones.

Having already won this season’s Premiership title and the League Cup, Pep Guardiola’s side also have the opportunity to add the Champions League trophy to their collection as well.

They will take on Chelsea in the final later this month, as they eye their first ever title in Europe’s premier club competition.

City may have already stamped their domestic dominance but European success has always been elusive, having previously only gotten as far as the semifinals in 2016.

Guardiola and co now find themselves on the verge of a place in the history books, as they prepare for the showdown with the Blues on May 30th
