According to Bernama, the fire occurred in a thick forest area that had no access road, forcing the firemen to walk to the site, said Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue station chief, Muzamer Mohd Salleh.

Over 30 firemen were deployed to the scene since the fire broke out at 7.30 PM and the Penang Fire and Rescue Department managed to extinguish fires at two areas measuring about 4ha and 2ha respectively.

Penang exco member, Phee Boon Pooh said they believed the fire was sparked from open burning activities amid logging in the area.

“We are investigating to identify the party that is responsible,” he said.

Efforts to contain the flame were still ongoing in the third area but due to the dense jungle condition, it makes it even more dangerous for the firemen.

Please avoid open burning during this hot and dry weather, ok guys?
