Malaysians Join MCMC’s #MyMaker Movement To Produce Makeshift Pressure Pods For Frontliners!

Malaysians have been super helpful during this pandemic, some have been preparing meals to give those in need, or making PPEs for the frontliners, while people like Kenneth Lim and Brian Lee have come forward to produce makeshift pressure pods!

Yup, we are definitely proud to be Malaysian.

According to the Malay Mail, the pressure pod was inspired by South Korea’s phone booth-like COVID-19 testing stations. Lee and his team, including Kenneth Lim, initiated the ‘Project Cov-Shield Prototype 1’ and created a negative pressure pod, with the special help of some specialists and doctors.

He said that Dr. Tan Guo Jeng and Dr. Khairul Azri Sabri from the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) approached his friend Lee, a prop builder from Macam Yes Studios to build a prototype for their negative pressure pod design.

The pressure pod is made out of acrylic and aluminum sheets. “These booths save time, PPE resources and minimise the risk of exposure to the frontline medical staff, so UMMC doctors reached out to us and gave us some input about the design as well.”

Lim added while the MCMC has played a huge role and has helped his team progress, there is always room for more people to help. “We alone cannot deploy it in such a short time and we cannot afford to quarantine anymore trained medical staff either. For every minute we waste, a medical staff is put at risk.”

They’re always open to share ideas with other like-minded individuals who want to help the frontliners, so if you have any ideas, just head on over to his Facebook page!

The team is currently working on their second prototype project and we can’t wait to see how it turns out! Good luck, guys!
