The Movement Control Order (MCO) in some states doesn’t seem to be showing any results just yet, but Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said authorities will continue observing the situation, before deciding whether it needs to be extended.
Malaysia recorded 3,631 new cases yesterday (January 19th), and it seems as though our numbers have been fluctuating around this range over the past few days.
During his daily press briefing yesterday, Dr Noor Hisham insisted it’s still too early to see the effectiveness of this MCO 2.0, as new cases currently being reported are likely from infections prior to its implementation.
“The incubation period for the COVID-19 virus is two weeks — so those we detect now are from those infected from before MCO 2.0. Even though we have already put in place the MCO 2.0, we cannot yet see the result of it just yet. Cases will continue to rise these next few days — but we are hopeful that in a week or so we will see that the number of COVID-19 cases start to stabilise,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham added that the findings over the next few days will dictate whether the MCO 2.0 will be extended for another two weeks.
Earlier yesterday, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that all other states, except Sarawak, will also be placed under the MCO from this Friday (January 22nd).
