MET Malaysia Warns Of Monsoon Surge Between 27 December to 1 January

The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) is expecting a monsoon surge to take place between December 27th and January 1st which has the potential to cause continuous rain in East Sabah, West Sarawak and several states on the East Coast of the Peninsula and Johor.

According to NST, based on the analysis of the MetMalaysia Weather Research and Forecasting (MMD-WRF) model, the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) and the Global Forecast System (GFS), MetMalaysia also expects low-pressure weather systems in the South China Sea to have heavy rain potential in East Sabah from December 27th to December 30th, West Sarawak (December 29th to December 30th), while Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan (December 30th to January 1st).

Strong winds and rough seas are also forecasted in the waters of the South China Sea, including the waters of the East Coast of the Peninsula from today until January 1st. 

They said in a statement: “Members of the public who plan to travel to these areas are advised to always be vigilant and sensitive to the latest information.”

MetMalaysia also said that it will continue to monitor weather conditions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will issue a Continuous Rain Warning and a Thunderstorm Warning when necessary.
