...well, her video got so much attention that it prompted authorities from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take immediate action!
The MCMC explained in their press release, that officials have conducted an inspection at Kampung Sapatalang in Pitas, Sabah on Monday (15 June), “According to information obtained, there is a telecommunications tower providing 3G coverage within 1.4 km from the student’s village.”
They also said that the 3G coverage will allow students to take examinations online, while streaming activities will require higher coverage.
MCMC plans to build a new telecommunications tower under the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) 1, in a village near Kampung Sepatalang.
The project is expected to be ready by the second quarter of 2021.
In the statement, MCMC also mentioned that they have made plans to upgrade its coverage to 4G under the Universal Service Provision (USP) fund programme, early this year.
People have been debating on social media since her video went viral and served as a reminder that there are still people in the country who struggle to get the most basic thing which almost all of us have today.
One user said: “Maybe one thing we can take from this pandemic is that there are so many Malaysian who have to struggle for education”.
While another addressed MCMC and said that it’s a shame that we embarked on the digital journey more than 20 years ago but basic infrastructure in some parts of the country are still in shambles.
