M’sian Students Affected By The Flood In Queensland Are Safe & Have Been Evacuated

Malaysian students who have been affected by the floods that have ravaged Queensland, Australia in recent days are safe and have been evacuated to relief centers.

The students were evacuated with the support of local authorities, other Malaysian students and Malaysian nationals with permanent residence (PR) status living in Queensland, according to a statement by the Higher Ministry of Education (MOHE).

It further stated that the students’ evacuation and welfare needs were met in collaboration with other agencies, including the MARA Office in Australia, the New Zealand Education and Training Office, and the Malaysian High Commissioner's Office in Canberra.

Petronas, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Malaysian Students' Council of Australia (MASCA) and Queensland MASCA are also engaged.

Aside from that, the Education Malaysia Australia (EMA) office is keeping an eye on the flood situation and has encouraged other flood-affected students to seek refuge in relief centers because power and water would soon be turned off.

The statement reads, "It is also to assist monitoring and coordination by the authorities as well as the Office of the Malaysian High Commissioner in Canberra."
