The concession holder of the East Coast Expressway, Anih Bhd yesterday (2 August), pleaded with Muslim motorists against performing prayers on emergency lanes as it could lead to traffic accidents.

According to the Malay Mail, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak (KLK) Expressway operators said in a statement: “We truly appreciate the patience of KLK Highway users and also the obedience of the Muslims to perform their prayers while travelling to the East Coast, during every festive season and public holidays.”
“However, as the KLK Highway operators, we also seek patience and reasonableness from road users so as not to perform their prayers on the roads; that is on the emergency lane, for safety factors,” they added.
Last week, on the night of Hari Raya Aidiladha (30 July), a photo on Twitter went viral of Muslim travellers performing the early Subuh prayer on KM32 on the KLK Expressway due to traffic congestion.
“This can cause accidents involving motorists and vehicles that are not aware of the static presence of individuals who are on the emergency lanes,” they added.
The KLK operators also advised road users to plan their journey and stop for prayers in designated places such as the rest and recreation (R&R) stops along the East Coast Expressway (LPT1) and the KLK Highway when returning to the Klang Valley.
Guys, if you need to stop and pray while you’re on the road - make sure to stop at the designated R&R so that you and other road users will be safe from any unwanted accidents!
