Have you ever stopped at a traffic light and suddenly hear a loud “BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR” sound?
Whether it annoys you or not, you’d look up thinking to see a luxury sports car, only to see that it’s just a motorcycle with a modified exhaust pipe. Right?

Well, if you own one of these bikes, we hope you’re aware that there are consequences…
You can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed up to six months!
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief, Datuk Azizman Alias said the offence has been established in accordance with Rule 103 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959 (LN 170/1959).
“The rule states that every exhaust pipe installed on a motorised vehicle must be maintained at all times so that it is in a good condition. So, anybody who modifies an exhaust pipe to the point of disturbing public peace is found to have committed an offence,” he said.
Police can seize any motorcycle to ensure that the offence doesn’t happen again.
“Through these operations, motorcycles will be checked to determine if the owner complies with the permitted exhaust pipe noise emission level,” Azizman explained.
He also believes that the use of noisy exhaust pipes has always been a trend among youngsters, as they want to increase the speed of the motorcycle and to look cool.
Azizman warned that the ruling was not only limited to owners of motorcycles as other motorised vehicle owners should also comply with the law and road regulations with regards to any modification to their vehicles.
We’d have to agree! Enough of this nuisance!
