Yesterday (November 9th), it was announced that if you fail to check in using the MySejahtera app at petrol stations, you’d be fined RM1,000!
This caused confusion as Malaysians wondered if the ruling still applied for just filling petrol.
Well, the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) clarified that individuals only need to use the MySejahtera app to check in when entering the convenience store at petrol stations.
Its President Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz explained the directive that was given to them was to only register details of patrons when they enter such locations, and not while they refuel their vehicle.
“What we were told is that we have to have the QR code and temperature screening upon individuals entering the shops, toilet and surau. Beyond that, there is no need,” he said.
The Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) also clarified the matter, with a reminder that it’s dangerous to use your phone near the fuel pump anyway.
“For self-service machines and infrastructure, there is no need to scan the QR code. So, for safety considerations, it is not practical to do that,” it told The Star.
“Brief encounters such as refilling oil at pump stations or when making payments do not require the MySejahtera app to be scanned,” it added.
The clarification also comes following a viral audio clip of a man alleging that his father was fined RM1,000 because he did not check in using the MySejahtera app when refuelling.
