The government has some good news for unemployed graduates.
Students who graduated last year but have yet to land a job are encouraged to take full advantage of the government's Career Advancement Programme (CAP).
The Penjana KPT-CAP programme, which stands for National Economic Revival Plan (Penjana) Higher Education Ministry-Career Advancement Programme (KPT-CAP), has been granted RM100mil out of the overall RM35bil Penjana initiative.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged those graduating in 2020, and also graduates who have not secured jobs so far this year, to join.
“Try to benefit from this opportunity to improve your skills and competency as it will increase your marketability,” he said.
The programme, which will begin in October, will be conducted by academics, practitioners and industry players at selected higher education institutions nationwide.
Some 20,000 graduates are expected to benefit from the CAP programme.
About 41,000 graduates are still unemployed from 2019 and this figure is expected to increase up to 116,000 this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Muhyiddin urged students to consider entrepreneurship as a potential new career path as it can also create more jobs for others.
Towards this year-end, the Higher Education Institution Entrepreneurship Action Plan for 2021-2025 is being developed at tertiary-level institutions.
