Members of the public have been urged to help the government sniff out those who violate COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this will assist the police in taking action against offenders, to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Those looking to channel information or tip-off can contact the cops either by calling in directly or going to the nearest police station.

However, do remember to first verify if there is any actual wrongdoing - photographic evidence will also help.

This, following allegations that some individuals had updated their social media accounts with reports of mass gatherings supposedly involving their close family members, despite the fact that such activities are banned under the MCO.

Violations of the MCO can result in a maximum fine of RM1,000, up to six months in jail or both.

However, brace yourselves for harsher punishments as the Attorney-General’s Chambers is currently drafting a proposal to increase the fines for MCO rule-breakers.

For those who are having a hard time abiding by the SOPs, you may not see it now, but adhering to the rules is the only way for us to get out of these movement restrictions and overcome this whole pandemic.

Don't be stubborn, guys! If you really need to be out of the house, make sure you're following COVID-19 SOPs in place!
