It’s important for us to stay indoors and limit our interactions with others. In helping us do so, food joints and chain operators have come together to help us brave through the Movement Control Order period.
Firstly, QSR Brands, Malaysia’s leading restaurant chain operator with more than 1,100 KFC and Pizza Hut outlets nationwide is taking the extra step in curbing the spread of COVID-19 by introducing ‘contactless’ delivery and self-collect options.

For “contactless delivery” made available soon at KFC and Pizza Hut chains in Malaysia, orders and payment can be made online through the ‘Contactless Delivery’ function on the respective app (KFC / Pizza Hut) or at online check-out. When Delivery riders are on their way, they will contact the customers to ask for the location to place the food, keeping a distance while customers retrieve their orders without contact.
As for KFC Self Collect or Pizza Hut Tapau’ Takeaway, available now in 213 KFC and 410 Pizza Hut stores nationwide, orders and payment can be made on the respective app (KFC / Pizza Hut) or at online check-outs. Customers will need to select their preferred store and pick-up time, then proceed to the store with their order confirmation to collect their meal.
Besides these two options, takeaway for walk-in customers is readily available across all KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants.
KFC and Pizza Hut are not the only ones taking extra precautionary measures to help decrease the transmission of COVID 19 across the nation.
McDonald’s has announced that it will be closing our doors for dine-in starting 18 March to 31 March 2020.
However, McDonald’s food and drinks will still be available across more than 290 restaurants nationwide via Drive-Thru, McDelivery and restaurant counters for takeaway orders only, to minimise physical contact between its crew and the public.
Following the restrictions set within the Movement Control Order, OLDTOWN outlets will also be closed to the public for dining. However, if you’re craving for good ol’ kopitiam food, OLDTOWN meals will still be available through their food delivery partners such as foodpanda, GrabFood, DeliverEat, and Hungry. Alternatively, you can also visit your nearest outlet for pick-ups and takeaways.
As reported by the Star, the president of Malaysia Singapore Coffeeshop Proprietors’ General Association, Datuk Ho Su Mong, has said that coffee shops will be allowed to operate partially for customers to tapau (take away) only, instead of letting customers dine in order to mitigate the spread of Covid-19
He said while some of the members in the society who are in bigger cities engaged in food delivery services for their outlets, coffee shops in smaller towns would be encouraging customers to take away food.
Besides ensuring that we could practice the Movement Control Order as efficiently as possible, all food joints and chain operators are also committed in upholding the highest standard of food safety and hygiene in their food handling practices.

We are glad to know that the food and beverage industry is fighting with us during this difficult time. Stay safe and stay positive, everyone.
