According to The Star, Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said that Muslims should celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri but they can delay the festivities.

“After fasting for one month, we are obligated to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on the first day of Syawal. We must eat and we must perform the Hari Raya prayers in the way we are advised under the movement control order.”

“However, the way we mark the occasion may not be the same as festive celebrations are most about traditions,” he added.

He also noted that visiting people during Aidilfitri should be limited because even after the MCO is lifted, we should still practice social distancing to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob suggested that the Aidilfitri holidays in Malaysia should be postponed due to the current COVID-19 situation.

Hari Raya is still about being with family, so if you are alone for Hari Raya this year, try video calling your family and talk to them. We hope you will be reunited with them again soon!

In the meantime, stay healthy and stay at home!
