As of 16th April 2020, over 5,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 84 fatalities have been reported in Malaysia.

A few weeks ago, Malaysia had the highest confirmed cases in the region with 3-digit cases recorded every single day. But on 15th April 2020, Malaysia reported 85 new cases, a significant decrease after a few weeks of 3-digit cases.

Many Malaysians on social media are talking about the way Datuk Dr Noor Hisham handles the COVID-19 crisis in the country. His team’s strategies in attempting to break the chain of infection seem to be successful so far.

Besides that, his daily 5pm live updates on the COVIDd-19 situation in Malaysia is actually something some of us look forward to everyday.

The 56-year-old has been praised by many for the way he delivers the daily updates calmly, answer questions patiently, and provide prompt updates on his social media accounts.

And the other thing that has made Malaysians admire him is his humility.

When asked how he felt about being called a ‘hero’ by fellow Malaysians during one of the daily press conferences, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said,

“It’s not about me. It’s about what we can do together as one for the COVID-19 situation.”

He has also received multiple national awards for his excellent service, which includes the 'Officer of the Order of the Defender of the Realm' or also known as Kesatria Mangku Negara.

Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah was recently named by a Chinese TV station as one of the top 3 doctors in the world in the fight against COVID-19.

But he has attributed his recognition to team effort from everyone involved, including the private sector.

The Health DG was also recently selected to join a coalition of global scientists, to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The senior consultant surgeon, who is now the public face of the country, is one of 74 signatories that will push for a research on COVID-19.

Thank you Datuk Dr Noor Hisham for your efforts and to all doctors and nurses, who work tirelessly in hospitals!
