Malaysia continues to soar to new heights, as its daily tally for new COVID-19 cases reached a new record-high of 2,188 cases yesterday (November 24th), having only broken the record the previous day (November 23rd) with 1,884 cases.
This brings our total number of positive cases to 58,847, officially surpassing our neighbours Singapore (58,183).
Selangor again accounted for most of the cases (1,623 or 74.2% of total), with Klang’s Teratai Cluster continuing to spread like wildfire (1,511 cases)
“The medical and public health authorities have been mobilised to the area (Teratai) to help with mass screenings and monitoring and control of the situation,” said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
According to The Edge Markets, the latest tally of active cases in the Teratai Cluster — meaning patients who carry high transmission risks and have to be admitted to hospitals and quarantined — climbed to 3,835 from 2,359 reported on Monday.
Among the 4,036 cases detected so far, 3,846 are migrant workers while the remaining 190 are Malaysians.
Also, 201 patients related to the cluster have been discharged, and no deaths have been reported as of now.
The government already ordered 28 factories linked to the cluster to be temporarily shut down.
Meanwhile, here's the latest update on COVID-19 red zones in Malaysia as of yesterday:
On the bright side, a total of 1,673 patients were discharged from hospital yesterday, adding to the cumulative total recoveries to 44,153 cases.
Stay safe, everyone, and Klangites, hang in there!
